Brake Caliper Painting DIY (and how to p*ss of all the Porsche Purists for only $65)
Yes I know, they're not the carbon ceramic brakes. NO, I'm not pretending to have the PCCBs. I just love how the yellow brake calipers look against my graphite blue metallic Porsche 911's exterior paint color. It's absolutely breathtaking!
After 7 years of owning these cars and this being my 5th Porsche 911... I've come to the firm realization and belief that if you want to mod your car - go ahead and mod your car. It's your car - do whatever the happy living f*ck you want with it and to hell with what anyone else thinks. I even couldn't care what people think about resale value in today's culture. There is buyer for every car. In fact, there are dozens of buyers for every Porsche 911 - n...

Rear Brakes DIY (Porsche Cayenne 958)

Ok ok, I know the thumbnail of this one is a little click-bait'y. But I hope you enjoy it none the less. I know a lot of Cayenne owners out there who love these cars as their daily drivers as much as I do. So this DIY video should hopefully come in handy to a lot of people. I love this interior mod. This is something I would configure in my dream car build, if I ever one day order a new Porsche from the factory. This small pop of color inside the cabin really adds to the personality of the car, in my opinion, and really makes the car come alive. It's elegant, it's not too 'in your face' even through it is literally right in front of your face... it's a very specia...

    The colour is exactly what the car needed to tie in the door stickers too, really like it. I can’t remember if you did the stickers yourself, if so was it difficult? I have some grey ones for my black 991 but I’m terrified of screwing it up!

      Thanks! No, I didn't disconnect the battery before doing this job but you certainly can to be safe. I've done this job on a couple of different types of Porsche cars now and never had a problem. I only really disconnect the battery when I'm playing around with any trim that involves airbags or seatbelt sensors and then I wait a good 20 mins or so after disconnecting the battery before touching anything.

    HAs anyone figured a way to do this without removing bumper?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur 7 дней назад

      I've tried several times and I'm going to say not possible... UNLESS you're willing to glue the camera to your bumper instead of using a retaining nut. The only way to get to the nut on the other side of the bumper is by removing it. You can however drill a hole for the wire, insert the wire and run it up to inside the engine bay where the tail lights come out with a fish line, without removing the bumper. From there you can disassemble the fan assembly and run the wire inside the cabin through the grommet by the spoiler wing.... However, that still leaves the camera dangling by your license plate. You would have to glue or somehow adhere the camera over the hole where the wire goes into the bumper and mount the camera. Shit loads of super glue?

    • @stuartholt2299
      @stuartholt2299 7 дней назад

      @@AutoAmateur thanks for the great response, from one west coast 991 Englishman to another! Is it possible to install it in the spot where one of the license plate lights go instead?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur 6 дней назад

      @@stuartholt2299 I suppose you could, but at night your rear end would look weird because your lights will loose the symmetry and the camera won't completely cover up the hole the bulb fitting will leave behind. I suppose technically you could do it, but it would look clunky as hell.

    The Author of this video has shown, in other videos, that he's a pretty decent shade tree mechanic. I chuckled at some of the inspection items (check that the horn works!?!), as they are items that if you drive the car, you'd notice being off kilter immediately. The hood issue is another question, but again I think this Author could have done that too. I have a 2002 996 Turbo that I got new at the factory in Zuffenhausen. Currently has about 80,000 miles on it. Only serious issue was that I had to have the clutch replaced, about $12K, but while the engine was out, I had the dealer install not just a clutch disk, but also a new flywheel, throwout bearing and pressure plate. I would have done that myself too except I don't have the facilities to get the car high enough to drop the engine and transmission out the bottom. Otherwise, the car has never been back to the local dealer once in 22 years. Oil change, cabin filter and air cleaner changes, etc., are child's play with a little patience and there are numerous RUclips videos to help you out on almost anything. I'll admit I've built race cars and a Bonneville streamliner, so I probably have a little more knowledge than the average Joe or Jane, but really it isn't rocket science and with a decent set of hand tools and some patience almost anybody can keep a Porsche running barring something major. I replaced the plastic coolant tubes on a Cayenne we had, and that job was more serious, probably a bit too much for somebody not pretty good. FWIF, the Cayenne was basically a piece of junk.

    so James what are you afraid of with the no brainer ECU tune?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur Месяц назад

      Oh it’s not fear. It’s the unfortunate scenario of being a wall to wall Mac house and the tool requires a frakking Windows laptop to flash the unit several times during the job. I flat out refuse to buy a Windows device just for this and keep forgetting to getting around to tracking down someone locally who might lend me one. It’s an absolutely ridiculous stalemate to be in. 😂😂😂🤦🏼‍♂️

    I don't think yellow pisses off anyone. Sure they are fake PCCB, but no one will know and it's not like you painted them blue or purple. Looks good

    Exactly. If you cannot afford PCCBs open up the wallet and you'll also have far less brake dust.
